What to expect[]

Approach[]

  • Even though radar control is available you can expect a standard ILS approach for runway 34 from DYB VORTAC unless otherwise requested. Expect vectors for a VOR approach to runway 16 if winds are southerly.
  • The FMS database does not contain the racetrack procedure, approximate it (DYB128/4.5 - DYB01158/6) or fly in HDG SEL as per Doc 8168.
  • Note that the PAPI lights are set for a 2.5° approach path while the ILS is a standard 3° - expect three or even four white on final.

Taxi[]

  • Plan a long rollout if 34 is in use (to be at taxi speed reaching the last 1200 ft due to the hook barrier)
  • Be aware of the narrow taxiways, they are additionally unlit at night together with the paralell runway.
  • The parking arrangement has been changed several times over the last years, the apron is full of overpainted and hard to see taxi lines.
  • The apron is very small and only fits 3 medium aircraft, expect either to hold over DYB or to wait on the emergency runway if the apron is full.
  • Hook barriers can be installed at 373m/1223ft(RWY16),392m/1286ft(RWY34) from the threshold, take this into account for T/O performance calculations and taxi. Usually installed on the northwestern end of the runway (end of RWY34)
  • Passengers will walk from the terminal to the airplane for boarding, the chance for confusion is high when several aircraft are on the apron - have the cabin crew double check boarding passes and plan some extra time for boarding.

Departure[]

  • DYB
Expect to depart on runway heading, radar will give a turn towards the first waypoint around 5000ft.
  • The military aircraft have absolute priority - having to wait up to 30 minutes on the apron until they have departed is common.
